Up with the Birds

Up with the Birds

Matthew 10:24-38
Gospel Reading for the Third Sunday after Pentecost (Year A)

From a wire
a cry
a song

one in a million
nothing special
nothing different

yet the divine
turns an ear and
soaks in the melody

the tune flits
and floats
to the sky

nothing special
nothing different
yet the song is heard

the song is applauded
loved, admired,
cherished

if that is how
God loves the song
of a bird on wire

how much more
does the divine sit
enraptured

at the song
that comes from
you
